Self regulation
Self-Regulated Learning (SRL)
Self-Regulated Learning as concept is about understanding the child's
self-regulation in a learning context.
The “Self” in self-regulation is not about doing things alone.
Self-regulation extends beyond individualised learning, into collective
forms of learning.
Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) is the cyclical learning process, that
children engage in when they become goal-directed, intentional, active,
responsible and skilled learners.
At the core of SRL is the cyclical process: Plan-Monitor-Evaluate.
SRL requires careful monitoring and scaffolding from teachers part -
children might procrastinate, intentionally choose to disengage from
learning, or choose study strategies and skills that don’t facilitate
long-term learning and transfer.
Thus, combining self-regulated learning with explicit instruction is
important, particularly for children with low academic achievement,
and/or executive/self-regulatory challenges.
